Today, The Women’s Health Group Thornton location opened its onsite 3D Mammography suite. This state-of-the-art suite will provide tomosynthesis (3D mammography), which greatly increases chances of detecting malignancies at their earliest stage.
3D Mammography will be available to all patients of The Women’s Health Group who qualify for screening mammograms.
“The Women’s Health Group has always been committed to ensuring our patients receive the most advanced healthcare available to women, coupled with the compassion and expertise of our medical providers,” says Cindy E. Long, MD, Medical Director for The Women’s Health Group. “Offering in-house 3D mammography screening ensures that this care continues at each step of the patient journey.”
Not only does this suite offer the convenience of a single date and location for an annual women’s wellness exam and mammography, but the entire mammography experience is monitored by The Women’s’ Health Group providers. An individual’s medical records, reports and images are maintained and managed at the same location. If any follow-up imaging or care is required from an abnormal screening mammogram, Women’s Health Group providers are informed and will monitor patient progress through any additional steps that are required.
The chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer increases with age – 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Most experts in women’s health agree with having annual mammograms at starting at 40+ years of age. That is still the gold standard for breast health surveillance.
