In case you missed it, Dr. Jennifer Guggenheim, from our partner practice Mile High OB-GYN, answers the question, “Is the COVID-19 Vaccine Safe for Pregnant Women?” She presents the most recent data and findings from the CDC, ACOG, and SMFM, and answers questions from participants.
This webinar was filmed on April 8, 2021. Since recording, Dr. Guggeheim wanted to provide this update, “The FDA and CDC have requested a pause in the administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine after reports of a rare blood clot were noted in six out of the 6.8 million people who were vaccinated in the United States. They are currently reviewing safety data.” For more information on this update, visit the CDC’s website.
More and more Coloradans have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and more and more people are becoming eligible to receive the vaccine. As of April 2, 2021, Colorado is in Phase 2 of vaccine distribution. All Coloradans 16 and older are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine, and all Coloradans 18 and older are eligible to receive the Moderna or Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine.
As we have learned, pregnancy is one of the high-risk conditions that can lead to worsened outcomes from COVID-19 infection. In Colorado, all pregnant women are now eligible to receive the COVID vaccine. Based on the CDC’s most recent reports, vaccines are unlikely to pose a specific risk for people who are pregnant. However, there is currently limited data on the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in pregnant people.
