Information:
A special needle is inserted into the natural opening of the sacrum and placed next to the nerve that passes through the bladder. In humans, this leads to an inhibition of bladder emptying, in some people to urinary incontinence and urinary tract infections, and bladder cancer. With InterStim, these symptoms are improved and eliminated, allowing them to live with less pain, fewer discomfort and a better quality of life. This is made possible by restoring the function of the bladder and pelvic floor and by using a small implantable device.
InterStim is unique in that stimulation tests are performed to assess the effectiveness of the therapy before placing the permanent implant. The therapy results are based on positive test stimuli, which then lead to long-term reversible implantation.
