Emily Austin, FNP-C

Biography

Dr. KimberLee Barnes has recently returned to the Thornton/Broomfield community after a two-year hiatus. During those two years she worked in Germany for the US Army. Although not a newcomer to the community, she is a new doctor at Women’s Health Group.

She is from Michigan originally and went to Michigan State University for both undergraduate and medical school. She moved to Denver in 1986 to complete her residency training in OB/GYN at St. Joseph Hospital. Colorado is now home sweet home!

Her long-time passion has been the care of patients with menopausal symptoms, as well as Gynecologic surgery and well-woman preventive medicine. The philosophy that she tries to embody is “patient care and teaching first”. She is also very pleased to participate in the pregnancy and childbirth stages of her patient’s lives.

What makes Colorado home to you?

All of the outdoors – we camp year round, hunt, fish, and love being in the mountains.

What are your passions outside of work?

Spending time with her family, traveling, and enjoying the Colorado outdoors.

Why did you become a Family Nurse Practitioner?

I became a Family Nurse Practitioner because I loved the holistic model of nursing, where the patient comes first, blended with medicine to prevent illness, promote healing and wellness, and to treat the problems of the body from head to toe. I care for the person, not just the patient – through the lifespan, building relationships that empower my patients to live their healthiest life.

What in your career are you most proud?

I am very proud of the fact that we have expanded The Women’s Health Group ability to care for the entire person by providing much needed primary care services to new and existing patients. In addition to the relationships I build with my patients, I also have several established relationships with many universities across the country, precepting future providers during the course of their education and pursuit of a career in medicine.

What is the most important part of your job?

The most important part of my job is providing my patients with the tools to live the healthiest, most satisfying life possible. This is achieved with a foundation of trust, supporting them through times of health and times of illness, during successes and setbacks, and meeting the person where they are, in that moment, to achieve their health goals.
